God’s Love

DEVOTIONS FROM THE GARDEN

Finding Peace and Rest from Your Hurried Life

With Miriam Drennan

A devotional that is different from other devotionals. This devotional is full of inspirational readings, like other devotional, but includes information about gardening. A great collection of 90 devotional readings that start with a Bible verse includes some gardening details, an inspiring reading and a prayer. In each, your will find a lesson to be learned, not just for the soul but a lesson about miracles of nature. Some gardening tips are; Pinching and Deadheading, Native Plants, over watering and many more. Miriam Drennam does a fantastic job of merging gardening with ways to improve our walk with Christ. In comparing the two, she wrote with a strong teaching of how God can use some of the same methods to prune and help us grow into better followers of Christ. She writes in an easy to understand method. Even if you do not know much about gardening you will learn a new hobby as well enjoy the scriptures and a new understanding of God.

I think the book would make a great gift for anyone who wants to know more about gardening and/or more about the love of God. Beautiful picture of many different flowers and plants illustrate throughout the book, an enjoyment to view for all. I not only got my spirit lifted, but got an education on gardening.

God’s Promises

PRAYING OVER GOD’S PROMISES

The Lost Art of Taking Him at His Word

By Thomas R. Yeakley

A quote from book:

"God’s Word is always trustworthy because it is founded on the character and power of God Almighty."

God’s Promises are for us and He will never break His Promises. Thomas shares how we can pray over God’s Promises and take God at His Word.

He divides the book into seven sections:

1. What is promise?
2. A theology of promises
3. People who have prayed the promises
4. How to plead a promise
5. Walking by faith with the promises
6. Abuses and unfulfilled promises
7. Abram: One who trusted the promises

In each chapter he uses Bible verses and shares stories, to empathize how God’s Promises are important and the use of them. The stories are from his life and others that have seen proof of praying over promises and how God hears and answers. At the end of each chapter, a thought and discussion question is offered for you to use to get a better understanding of that section.

I found the book informative and easy to read. It is not a long book but you should get a wealth of information from it and a better and improved prayer life.

Head and Heart

DIVIDED

When the Head and Heart Don’t Agree

By Bill Delvaux

The longest distance in the universe is between the head and heart, this is one of things we are told when we become believers in Christ. The 18-inch space that separates; what we think and what we truly hold dear. Most of the time, this is a separation that will get us into trouble. Bill Delvaux share example from his own life and from others, how the disagreement between the head and heart can affect us in our lives. The scripture stories he shared show how this affected people of the Bible and how we are to handle our disagreements of the head and heart.

Divided into three parts:

1. Viewing the divide: How it began and what it destroys.
2. Tackling the divide: Three terrains to navigate
3. Closing the divide: What the journey feels like.

At the end of each chapter, he offers a prayer, an inspirational comment and questions for discussion. I found his writing easy to understand and that at times, he was talking straight to me only. He talks about the fears and shame that we have felt and how we can handle them. We all have gone through some of the examples he shares and I am sure we will be able to handle things differently after reading this book.

A quote from the book:

"Becoming undivided is not just another task: it is the pathway into the very heart of the Father."
