Exploring Christian Theology

EXPLORING CHRISTIAN THEOLOGY

Creation, Fall and Salvation

Nathan D Holsteen & Michael J Svigel General editors

Doctrine and theology are two things that are important to the Christian life but can be the cause for division. In their book, Nathan and Michael have put together important information about creation, the fall and salvation. They share different theories that are believed by many, giving the facts of each. This is the second book in the series on exploring Christian theology and cover the three subjects that are sometimes the cause for disagreement. A separate section is devoted to each subject with Biblical verses and overviews. Some of the things offered are scripture verses that can be memorized, facts on each subjects, passages to masters, voices from the past (quotes from early writers and theologians) and a history of doctrines. A section on other writings is offered for more reading on the subject.

I found the book very easy reading and easy to understand. The information is thorough offering an in depth look at the subjects. The glossary of theological terms is a welcomed help to understanding their meaning. I agree with the one note on the back of the book: "A great way to get acquainted with key Biblical theological themes."

Why Me Lord?

WHY ME, LORD?

A Spiritual View of a Carnal War

By Jim Taylor

The book of Revelation is vision, given to the apostle John by Jesus Christ, about things that will happen. This book by Jim Taylor gives a deep look into Revelation and explains what was going on in the seven churches addressed in Revelation. The author suggests that you read the book of Revelation before reading his explanation of it. You will learn about the culture of the time, about the locations and a very good background of the people and the different religions of the time. Jim Taylor offers facts that you may not have heard and offers them in a easy to understand way, explaining the facts as a history book would deal with them.

Revelation can be a book that scares people but with this book, will definitely help with a new and open explanation that should ease the fears people may have. I have read many different books about Revelation and found this book give a new understanding to it, one that explains in good details the facts and what will take place. The author uses scripture verses to explain many of the areas and facts of Revelation. This is a book that should be put on your must read list.

Looking for an easy way to teach toddlers and preschoolers the Bible and do it in a fun way? This book will definitely help a collection of 50 Bible stories that cover the entire Bible, from Genesis to Revelations. The stories are short but give information about the love of God, creation, Noah, Esther, prayer, the risen Christ, loving one another and many more. The use of scripture verses in the stories is important to the story and introduces the kids to what is in God’s Word. Along with songs that match each story, this book offers a great way to share Jesus and salvation to the young mind.

Stephen Elkins is a songwriter and author of children books. He is the owner and founder of Wonder Workshop, whose purpose is to grow better kids by giving them a moral compass that reflects God’s will.

The music CD included with the book contains a bonus of two songs to help learn the books of the Bible. The music, enjoyable to all ages, will be a great way to have family time with the kids.

I am a great-grandfather of two and would definitely recommend all parents and/or grandparents to buy and share it with the kids in their life.

Now & Forever

NOW & FOREVER

Wild at Heart – Book two.

By Mary Connealy

A heartwarming story from the early west. A romantic novel set in the Dakota Territory about a mountain man (Tucker) and a young woman (Shannon) who saves him from a grizzly and their fight to survive a fall from a cliff into a river, which is known for no one surviving the rough water. You are along on their wild adventure in surviving and their rescue. After their rescue, they get married and settle down on a homestead property, which she owns. They get to know each other better and start their healing from the river adventure. Their adventure together continues as a man is trying to burn them out of the homestead property. There are others to share in their life; her sisters also have homesteads and a Native American woman that raised the mountain man.

The story has romance, humor, mystery, adventure and God all rolled up in a great fictional novel. The book is a part of a series by the author. The details of the clothing, mountains and cabin they live in are great. The writing keeps you wanting to read more and is hard to put the book down.

I found the book very interesting and full of surprises that will keep you interested to the very end. I would really like to see it made into a movie; it has a great story line.

Breaking the Snares That So Easily Entangle

By Robert Morris

Do you have areas of your life you have to struggle every day? Robert Morris writes about some sins in our life that are enslaving us. He takes us on a journey to overcome the struggles that we have with sin. We open doors in our daily lives that allow Satan and his demons to slide in and hold us as slaves. Some of these areas are the snare of pride, the snare of greed, the snare of lust and the snare of bitterness. Robert reminds us that these things can make our lives miserable and offers ways to deal with them, God and His Word is what we need. A Bible verse that we should remember and learn is 1 John 4:4, "He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world."

He shares four steps to becoming free: recognize you need help, repent to God and others, renounce the lies of Satan and receive the gifts of the Father. He gives scripture verses and Biblical stories to help understand what is taking place.

I found the book very helpful in fighting the battle against Satan and recommend it to all who are struggling with sin in their life.
