CHRIST’S 40 COMMANDMENTS

Compiled by Renee Valverde Wagenblatt

The author has compiled 40 commandments or instructions from the teachings of Jesus Christ in the four Gospels. As she read the Gospels and Jesus gave an instruction she made a list of them and came up with 40, she calls them commandments. Matthew is the only Gospel that contains all of them. These are important instructions for us to live our lives, just as the Ten Commandments from the Old Testament are important. Normally we only think of two commandments from the New Testament but all the instructions given by Jesus are commandments. Renee has made a alphabetical list of each with associated verses found in the four Gospels. On occasion, she has included adjacent verses to give clarification.

The author done this listing for the purpose of sharing the Gospel of Christ and admits she is not a Bible scholar and only wants to share the comments or instruction of Jesus.

I think this is an important list and may be used many ways in helping with understanding the Bible. It would be great for group study and a way to help kids to get to know the teachings of Jesus. A very enjoyable ebook and contain a lot of information.

ANSWERING THE TOUGHEST QUESTIONS

ABOUT GOD AND THE BIBLE

By Bruce Bickel & Stan Jantz

with Christopher Greer

Got questions about God and the Bible, that OK everyone has had questions in this area. Bruce and Stan do their best in this book to try to answer those questions.

Questions like:

Is God real and How can you know?

Why doesn’t God make Himself obvious?

Can I trust what the Bible says about God/

Is Jesus God?

These and many more questions receive answers in this well written and informative book. Ten chapters that ask the questions and the authors do their best to answer them. Each chapter starts with an introduction to the questions. Some of the questions came from Chris Greer, a pastor, who asked people individually and in small groups by online surveys for questions that they might have. The questions asked are shown and answered, discussion questions are offered at the end of each section. The layout is very helpful if you would like to use the book in a study group or just for your own private reading.

Quoting from the rear cover of the book;

“With candor, insight, and a disarming touch of humor, Bruce and Stan provide some answers to these critical questions, yet they leave enough space —and grace— for you to keep wrestling, asking, and seeking truth.”

I found the book very interesting and contained Biblical facts and answers that are reliable and informative.

THE DANIEL CODE

Living Out Truth in a Culture That is Losing Its Way

By O. S. Hawkins

This book is a study of the book of Daniel; the author takes the first six chapters of Daniel and offers a comparison of Daniel’s time and our times. In the introduction he start in the 50’s and comes through the next five decades showing how our country has changed, he calls it Culture Shock. Using the book of Daniel, what Daniel and his friends went through in Babylon, will offer a look into how we can use the information Daniel gives us and stay true to Godin our beliefs. The author talks about changes we have tolerated over the decades, our prideful culture and that we need to show our integrity at these times. We need to be effective culture warrior and stand up for what we believe to be right. By comparing, our culture to Daniel’s time should help us realize that we need to be strong and hold to our beliefs as Daniel and his friends did.

The book is easy to read and understand, contains a lot of information and opens a new way to compare our culture to the culture of the Old Testament. A short study but one that will help today’s culture.
