Reason for Belief

9780764210570REASONS FOR BELIEF
Easy-to-Understand Answers to 10 Essential Questions
By Norman L. Geisler & Patty Tunnicliffe
Do you know what you believe, and why?
This book offers challenges that are given about the Bible and also gives the answers to those challenges. Challenges like, “Real truth does not exist.” – “God does not exist.”- “Miracles don’t happen.” – The New Testament has many errors making it unreliable.” – “Jesus never claimed to be God.” – “Jesus didn’t prove He was God.” – “The Bible isn’t the only true religious book.” and other questions that some people ask us, trying to trip us up and change our beliefs.
In my opinion, the answers given in this book are very reliable and Biblical sound, backed by Bible scripture, using other historical writing and references. This book is packed with information that can be useful in the daily contact with unbelievers and believers. Use it to defend your faith, you will have access to the answers with this book.
The book would make a great gift for believers and unbelievers, also would be a good addition to your library and make a good book for discussion or Bible study groups.
This review is my own opinion. Unlike other books on this blog, I purchased this book and did not receive it from any publisher. Just wanted to share the contents and information to all who are interested.

The Prayer Bible

_140_245_Book.2446.coverTHE PRAYER BIBLE
ICB – International Children’s Bible Translation
Published by Tommy Nelson a division of Thomas Nelson Publishing
This is a new Bible in the International Children’s Bible translation that will open-up prayer to kids and all readers. The Bible intro pages start with a letter with the salutation, Dear precious child, stating that God loves them and includes a short description of the Bible. The letter is done in a personal way and is a definite plus.
The Bible includes 160 special prayers of the Bible, where and when the prayer has been used in Bible times to help and how it can be used now for help. The Bible includes a dictionary and concordance for those study times. The words included in the dictionary are printed in bold type.
A description of how to use the Bible is included, making it very easy to learn the features and how they can be used. Some of the features used on each page are bold subject headings, highlighted key verses and footnotes. Also included are question and answers to help the reader to understand prayer. At the back of the Bible is pages for the reader to note prayer requests or other notes they may want to remember. A list is included of God’s promises along with a list of Bible verses for memorization, not just a list of addresses, but the verses themselves. A separate bonus of a prayer journal is included with the Bible.
I think this Bible would be a great help for kids and anyone new to the Bible. The translation is very easy to understand, and the helpful features are not over whelming as some study Bibles can be. The explanation of the prayers of the Bible are great and are a definite help to understand how helpful prayer is and why we need to pray.

There is Hope

_140_245_Book.2388.coverALL THINGS NEW
Heaven, Earth, and the Restoration of Everything You Love
By John Eldredge
What hope do we have? John Eldredge will show that we do have Hope . A hope in our future. God has promised us that all things will be made new. This promise is given to us in the Bible in the book of Revelations. What John does with this book is to show you, by using stories from his own life and from others that there is hope. Some of the things that he shares is about his best friend death and how that affected him. He shows that no matter what the situation is, there is Hope. He uses scripture, quotes from other authors and even movies he has seen. This is all done to show that hope is there, and a time will come when all of these tragedies and struggles that we are suffering will be gone, and everything will be new. He shares that with the saving grace of Christ the we can all see this new beginning in the new earth that God has promised.
The writing is Biblical sound and will show the hope that waits for us when we decide to follow Christ. It is easy reading and informative.
“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the old heaven and the old earth had disappeared. And the sea was also gone.” Revelations 21:1 NLT

Disappearing Church

disappearingDISAPPEARING CHURCH
From Cultural Relevance to Gospel Resilience
By Mark Sayers
Answers to these questions can be found in this book,
Why does the Western church look so much like the world?
Why are many of my friends leaving the faith?
How can we get back to our roots?
Mark Sayers offers some interesting facts how culture has influenced the church and has changed the way we worship and see God’s Word. He has divided this book into two parts, (1) Understanding our craving for cultural relevance and (2) Learning Gospel resilience. He covers subjects of post-Christianity, the Gospel of self (Gnosticism), stop catering to public opinion, reject the implicit prosperity Gospel and others that will inform you at to the problem and why the church has changed. Hopefully this book will make a difference in how we see the Gospel and how we need to follow God’s Word.
I found the book very interesting and think that it is a subject that needs to be addressed in our churches. So many churches are struggling today and need to be offering the true of the Gospels. I would recommend using this book in discussion groups for an impact on making changes.
Two quotes from the book;
“Maybe we need to reimagine church as a spiritual discipline.”
“Maybe with cultural spotlight elsewhere, we can get on with the business of being the church.”
