The Lord’s Prayer

9781462771301WHEN WE SAY FATHER
Unlocking The Power Of The Lord’s Prayer
By Adrian Rogers & Steve Rogers
Steve Rogers uses notes and writing of his father Adrian Rogers to share this important book. The writings deal with the Lord’s Prayer and how we should be praying. Jesus gave His disciples this example or guide to use when they asked Him how to pray. The Lord’s Prayer is a guide to be used when we pray, and this book explains the reason why. The words, in this book, are Adrian Rogers’ teaching and he has shared different stories and scripture verses that will help us to understand just how and why prayer is important. He has broken it down in seven sections and explains each section in great detail showing the basic components and promise of prayer from the source, Jesus.
The sections are; The person, the priority, the provision, the pardon, the protection, the praise and the promise.
Each section is very important but the most important of all is the prayer itself. Adrian explains that we need to pray and if we want our prayers answered to remember these three words, ask, seek and knock.
When we ask, we express desire. When we seek, we explore direction. When we knock, we exercise determination. A-S-K is what you need to remember.
The book is not a large book but holds a great deal of information and a lot of help for anyone struggling with their prayer life.

Who do you say I am

0802415504_bWHO DO YOU SAY THAT I AM?
A Fresh Encounter For Deeper Faith
By Becky Harling
This question was asked by Jesus, how would you answer? This book is an eight-week Bible Study that will help with this question. It is divided into five days a week which allows a little extra time to meditate on what the study is about. The study starts with Matthew 16:15 with the question of who do you say I am and continue with other Bible verses to answer the tough questions that Jesus asked and His revolutionary answers. Each week the workbook includes these sections; Explore, Reflect, Memorize and Praise. The explore section offers study of scripture connected to the I Am question. In the reflect section, questions to help you reflect how the scripture will help you grow. In the memorization section the author offers verses for you to memorize to increase the Holy Spirit’s vocabulary, as the author puts it, in your life. The praise section the author gives some praise songs that will tie in with that day’s lesson.
When you are finished with this study book you will have a better understanding who Jesus is and will want to follow Him. The study can be used in a group study but may work better as an individual study because of the total time of 40 days needed to do the study. Don’t be afraid to use it in a group study or discussion group.

What Our World Would Be Like Without Christianity
By Jeremiah J. Johnston
A world without Christianity is not a pleasant thought. After reading this book you will understand just how bad this world could be had Christ not come, had Christianity not started. The book is divided into three parts that cover the world before Christianity, the world without Christianity and the world with Christianity. The book is very much a history of the world and shows how things were, are or could have been. It shows how Christianity affected the world history and how the world may have been without Christianity giving guidance. There are stories of past leaders and famous writers that had great influence on people and what happen in the world. Some of those covered are Caesar, Hitler, Lenin and others and how their influence was received by the world and how it almost destroyed the world. The third part covers Christ and the start of the church and how that influenced what happen in the world.
If you like books about history, you will like this book. I found many facts that were helpful and added to my understanding of why some things happened. The book makes a great reference book for young and old and could help in Bible Studies or discussions. In the same way as books about culture helps, this one will be a big help in understanding why thing have happen and why Christianity is important to all, even if they don’t believe.
A quote from the book;
“Atheist regimes, whether fascist or socialist. Whether Nazi or Communist, are morally blind. This hardly occasions surprise. After all, once God has been removed, all that is left is the law of the jungle.”

NOT GOD ENOUGH

Why Your Small God Leads To Big Problems

By J. D. Greear

Do you have a small or a big God? J. D. Greear give information in his book NOT GOD ENOUGH to help you figure out which size God you have. He will show you that a big God is what you need and how that size God is can handle any problems that may come your way. The information he has put in this book will help you in your walk with God and will point out just how large God is. He shares examples of the difference between a small and a big God and how man is the one who has made God small and puts limits on Him. The author reveals how to discover a God who is big enough to handle all your problems, a God of wrath, a loving God, and a God who has a purpose for you on earth. Besides giving the information in an easy to read and easy to understand way, he adds some humor to his writing, while it is quite subtle but adds to the book. We tend to make God in our image instead of us being made in God image, when we do this we are putting limits on God.

J.D. Greear cover all angles and offers thought provoking meaning to scriptures that may not been the way you heard it before. I found this information very helpful and would suggest using this book as a Bible study or discussion group book. The help you find in it is worth an in-depth study.

Identity

51VS4syRvSLALL TOGETHER DIFFERENT
Upholding the Church’s Unity While Honoring Our Individual Identities
By J. Brian Tucker & John Koessler
In this book the authors give a detailed description of how we are identified. They have ten chapters that offer different identity methods. They cover identity factors of race, ethnicity, male, female, generation, the “in crowd” and church. The conflicts between these factors sometimes can be a crisis in getting along with others and making decisions. They show we look at things from a view point of our background or how we live and that can cause problems. The points they cover are very important to how we see things and people and make decisions about them. They show how we can change and look at things differently by letting God show us our true identity. The book helps us understand that all people are different and how their identity affects the way we see them and how we can learn to get along as one. At the end of each chapter a list of questions is given, for refection, these will help with understanding that chapter. The book is written to help us understand what social identity can teach us about church unity. In the final chapter they cover the highlights of the book.
The book should be a help in understanding why we look at things differently and how that can change. Why we all have our own way to looking at things. Why conflicts come up between people and groups. Letting God be in control of our thoughts and still have a separate identity. A great addition to helping us in our walk with Christ.

Prayer book

GOD’S BOOK OF PRAYERS

Each and Every Prayer in the Bible

Compiled by M.A.R.

This book is a collection of most of the prayers that are in the Bible. The author has compiled most of the prayers into categories and has done charts and list of them. The author starts the book with sections that explains what prayer is, why we need to pray to help, the ABC’s of prayer, plus other section that deal with prayer and help for daily living. Included is a section explaining the work and the time that went into this book and how to use it.

The charts are divided into categories of, blessings, confessions, insight, petition praise and others. Each chart is a help in studying the prayers of the Bible. A list of verses with prayer and a prayer words wheel that indicates how many prayer verses contain each word. Quotes from other authors are used and a list of these are included. The prayers of the Bible are listed according to their category and are in the book in the KJV, no need to look them up, unless you want to look at other translations. I think this would be a good book to use to study prayer and to understand prayers that are included in the Bible. A lot of time and work has gone into this book.
