Discovering God’s Hidden Treasures
By Brooke Caldwell
A thirty-day devotional that is packed full of spiritual help. Brooke has taken a step forward in her desire to write a short devotional for everyone, no dates or days to follow, just a heart full of love for God and a desire to share that love. She starts each devotion with a scripture verse and with her writing enhance that verse with stories from her life that give a better understanding to each. Each devotional has a prayer and some questions at the end that will get you thinking about the verse and devotion. I think you will find at lease one devotion that will touch or can be compared to something in your life and will help you understand that God is there to help you. She deals with jealousy, mercy, gentleness and other things that may affect your life in Christ. At the end of the book you are given an opportunity to accept Christ into your life or recommit yourself to Him.
A quote from the author about God is, “There is nothing in this world that will satisfy you like He will and there is nothing in the world that will fulfill you and complete you like His love will. He is the greatest treasure of all.”
The copy I received to review was an ebook, which makes it easier to have with you. Use the book with others for discussion groups by using the questions at the end of each devotion. The book is well written, spiritual and a blessing to read.

Faith among the faithless

FAITH AMONG THE FAITHLESS
Learning From Esther
How to Live in a World Gone Mad
By Mike Cosper
Mike Cosper shares a different point-of-view of the book of Esther, one that most people may not have thought of, it shows how Christians of today are similar to the Jews of Esther’s time. The way the world is trying to assimilate the Christian into the ways of the world. By comparing the Christian with the Jew, of that time, Mike has shown that we Christians have to standup for our beliefs and not change our way of thinking about God and His Word, the Bible. Satan is trying to control the world just as Haman wanted to control the Jews, he wants to eliminate our beliefs and rights to worship God. Haman tried to use the government to do this, just like organization are trying to use our government to take away our rights.
I think, Mike has made his point as to what is going on in our world to take away our religious freedom and how we need to follow the example of Esther and fight for who we are and what we believe. He shows us the facts in this comparison and what we need to do before our religious freedom is gone.
A quote from the back of the book: “Encounter a timeless story of evil, awakened faith, and hope for good in a world where God seems absent.”
Another quote: “Perhaps one of the best things we can do to serve Christians in a culture like ours is to work for influence, to try to bring a greater sense of “peace in the realm” to our cities and communities.”
This book can be used as a Bible study or be great for Bible discussion for any age groups. The book is well written and easy to understand and will make you think.

Lessons from life

Four Keys to Living with More Meaning, Purpose, and Success
By Steven M. Darter
Steven shares a collection of stories that are from his life. A life of growing up in Brooklyn in the sixty’s. The stories are entertaining, and Steven does not hold back on the details. He goes from 5 years old to becoming a teenager who makes mistakes, how finding the right spouse is important and shares going to college. His life was not easy, but he learns from his mistakes and learns how to help others. He shares things about his family and issues he had to deal with, the trials and errors that we all make, and he learns how God is in control and helps him to go and help others. The stories are in presented in sections dealing with meanings, purposes, success and God and how that helps him in his life. His success is accomplished by learning from his mistakes and he hopes by sharing these stories they will be helpful to the reader.
The book is easy reading, the stories hold your interest and you can learn from them. I think the main purpose of the book is to show that God is with us all the time, even when we don’t realize it. Read the book to help you see your purpose for being here, the meaning of that life and get the success that is waiting, God has his plan for us.
Unlike other books on my blog and my other reviews, I received a paperback copy of this book from the authors for my honest opinion of the book.

Pursuing Lives Marked by the Kingdom of God
By Kori De Leon
Pursuits in life is what Kori De Leon is covering in her book. Whether it is a sense of purpose, being recognized or other parts of life we are all doing it. We are bombarded with choices of the world on tv, in newspapers, magazines, book and movies, they try to tell us what is best for us. These offers are all for our life on this world not our eternal life. If you have accepted the offer for eternal life with God by accepting Jesus as your savior, then you want to make different choices. She uses scripture verses to show the difference of what God offers and what the world offers. She describes the Age to Come as a Kingdom ruled by a powerful King and that we need to prepare for this Kingdom now and that its already exists. The information she offers cover all that you will need to be prepared for that eternal Kingdom. She covers a longing for the Age to Come, a King worth living for, and what an adventure it can be. The Church as the bride of Christ and the important of that marriage and the important of the rewards that are ours in eternality. After reading this book you will have a view of what is waiting in that Kingdom.
The author offers some study questions at the end of each chapter that can be used to study God’s Word and used in discussion groups. The book is well written and easy to read and understand.

Finding the Love of Jesus

9780764218019FINDING THE LOVE OF JESUS
From Genesis to Revelation
By Elyse Fitzpatrick
This book is to help you get a deeper understanding of the Bible. From the book of Genesis to the book of Revelation you see that Jesus is throughout the Bible and not just in the New Testament as some think. You will learn how Jesus spoke about women and how they played a big role in the Bible. The author has directed her writing to women, but a lot of the information she shares should be known by men as well. Some of her interpretations may not agree with what you have been told or heard but read the book with an opened mind and see what she has understood from her interpretation. Her interpretations will show areas that you may not have expected to find Jesus, but you will see the love of Jesus is everywhere. One endorser of the book said, “this book makes me want to read my Bible.” Elyse covers the love of Jesus in the books of Moses, in the prophets, the law and, of course, in the Gospels. Each chapter include some discussion questions at the end, that will help you to understand that chapters information and get you to thinking about the Jesus’s Love and what the Bible says about that.
The book is not a long book, it goes right to the point the author is trying to make and could be used in Bible studies and discussion groups.

ALWAYS ENOUGH / NEVER TOO MUCH
By Jess Connolly & Hayley Morgan
A devotional to quit comparing, stop hiding and start living wild and free.
This is not like other devotionals, there are no days or dates for you to read each day. You get 100 devotions to read in any order that you wish. The devotions are written for women to help them in many areas. It is separated into two parts: (1) You are always enough, (2) You are never too much. The big different is how it is separated. The book is printed as a FLIP Book, meaning that you read one part then FLIP the book over to read the other part. They have used different color borders on the bottom of the pages and use a different color ribbon marker for each part. Each part has a table of content that makes it easy to find a certain topic.
The most important thing is that each of the 50 devotions covers a different topic as: Even when you make mistakes, Even when you feel unqualified are just two in the You Are Always Enough. In the You Are Never Too Much you have, Even when you have goals, Even when you cry easily. Each devotion has a scripture verse and a devotional story to cover each topic.
You will find the help offered by the authors is sound advice and will be of help in each situation. The book is worth reading and will be a big help in many areas.
Jess Connolly and Hayley Morgan share equality in writing this devotion and are the authors of an earlier book Wild and Free.
