NIV Readers Bible

Designed for a seamless reading experience
Published by Zondervan
Sometimes you may want to study God’s Word to get an in-depth understanding to the word, others time you are only interested in the story that the Bible has for you. This Bible is one that will allow you to read the story that God has for you. The Reader’s Bible development team has removed the study notes, except for a few at the end of each book, reference verses and verse numbers that are included in most other Bibles. They still mark the chapters in the border of the page. At the top of each page is a chapter and verse address that is covered on that page. This setup will allow you to read the Bible just like you would read a novel but it is still the complete NIV translation of God’s Word. I know that there will be many who don’t like the idea of no verse number but I like the idea just to be able to sit down and read God’s Word without the other references and sometimes distractions, as I would sit and read a novel, I think this is refreshing and may even help to understand the Word better.
Features included:
Complete text of the NIV
Single-column with 10.3 point type size
Verse numbers removed
Footnote follow each book
Scripture reference at the top of each page
Ribbon marker
Lay-flat design
Cover is stylish, a gold/grey cloth over board (on the copy I received)
Just the word of God in easy to read translation.

Daily Acts of Kindness

421616THE ONE YEAR
DAILY ACTS OF KINDNESS DEVOTIONAL
365 Inspiring Ideas to Reveal, Give, and Find God’s Love
By Julie Fisk, Kendra Roehl, & Kristin Demery
This devotional is a part of The One Year collection of Bibles and devotionals designed to help people read through the Bible in one year. This devotional written by Julie Fisk, Kendra Roehl and Kristin Demery covers the need for us all to do at least one act of kindness each day. They share a short story of a kindness done to help someone have a better day. The stories are written individually by the three women, adding their separate views and are encouraging and inspiring. They will add to your day and encourage you to do likewise by showing a little extra help to someone. The writing is easy to read and understand, along with the short story they give a scripture verse to think about that day and a suggested act of kindness for the day.
As with all the One Year books, the devotions are dated so you can start at any time and reach your goal of completing your reading in a year. The book would make a great gift for anyone. I think you will enjoy this book.
The world needs to see the kind of love that is possible with daily acts of kindness.
A couple acts of kindness from the book;
“Do you need to apologize to someone? Don’t let the sun set without reaching out with an apology.”
“Offer encouragement or support to a stranger who is going through a challenging circumstance.”

Answering the toughest questions

ANSWERING THE TOUGHEST QUESTIONS ABOUT SUFFERING AND EVIL
By Bruce Bickel & Stan Jantz
Many times, we hear the question, If God created everything. Did He create evil, or Why do good people suffer? These question plus other are tackled by the authors of this book. They don’t pretend to have all the answers but they will wrestle with it and offer some sound advice from the scriptures and other Christian writers.
The book is divided into ten sections, each dealing with a particular question about God, evil, and why certain things happen. They include did God create evil, why is there suffering, why doesn’t God eliminate suffering, why the violence in the Bible, and more questions that have been asked by many people. They divide the sections into separate questions, each section covers many questions concerning the subject of that section. The answer the authors write are based on the scriptures and will help you to have better understanding of the questions. Each question and answer has an example that someone has faced and include questions for you to answer. In my opinion there are some answers that we may not fully receive or understand until we finally come face to face with God, but this book is a definite help.
A quote from the back of the book, “There is no shame in asking—after all, even some of the greatest men and women in the Bible has doubts. Don’t let your questions go unanswered. What you find might just change your life.”
The book would make a great Bible study or book to use in a discussion group.

A Holy Departure From Fast Faith
By Alicia Britt Chole
52 experiences in unhurried honesty with God. In today’s world we are doing things faster and faster all the time. We want our food fast, we want to drive fast cars, etc., but one thing that we need to take at a slower pace is our learning about God and His Love. In her book, Alicia Britt Chole gives us 52 experiences divided into twelve, what she calls movements, to help us slowdown in hearing God Word and what He wants us to know and do. You will learn about His concepts, His word, theology of time and space and other movements. Each reading can be used as a daily reading or devotion, as a weekly time of study or however you wish. You will start with a quote, then a list of items needed for that section. She shares a short story about the question she is asking and give a section called a guided response, offers thought focuses for that section.
The book is setup to be used by yourself or it can be used in a study group. I liked the idea of the book but I did not like the method used to get her point across. I did not care for some of the suggestion in the guided response sections, I think the reader should do their own responses and journaling. The subject of the book is good.

How to Hear the Voice of God
By Mark Batterson
God still speaks to His people. Mark Batterson will help you in hearing Gods voice. In this book Mark teaches the seven love languages of God. Sign language, Scripture, Desires, Doors, Dreams, People, Promptings and Pain. He also shows how God will whisper instead of speaking loud or using loud noises. Mark shares some stories and experiences from his life and from other people that he knows. He shares many times that God spoke to him in his ministry and even as a young boy. One of the points of this book is to show us that God love us. The information in this book will help in your walk with God.
Near the end of the book Mark writes;
“Believe it or not, God love you.
He actually likes you.
In fact, He’s especially fond of you.
And that’s why He whispers.”
The book can be used as a study or in a discussion group, a great way to learn God’s way and the power of whispering. It shows that God does not have to be loud to hear Him.
